I found having open heart surgery ten years ago and not having the choice but to retire there was alot of mixed emotions.People would say you must be grateful to be alive .It did open me to other directions with art and writing.Ive grown alot from this experience
Thanks for sharing that, Karen. It makes sense there’d be a lot to sit with especially when the decision to retire wasn’t really yours to make. It’s not always as simple as “just be grateful,” is it? … so many emotions can coexist in those experiences. I’m glad you’ve found some grounding in art and writing. As a fellow artist and creative, I know that kind of outlet can help carry things that are hard to at times
