Work in Progress
From our creative partner in Gurugram, Haryana just outside of Delhi in India
This poem is taken from Dr. Shruti Shankar Gaur’s book Four Decades, The Prose of My Life and is reproduced with permission.
The poem, titled Work in Progress, appears in section 4 of the book called Peace and Surrender.
One thing I am sure of, Life is a work in progress, It’s a lonely journey. My own personal quest, To experience my dreams, In their grandest demeanour. Life is always a work in progress, Continue working And do not be complacent, Invest time and energy, Into meaningful relationships And meaningful dreams. Check for leaks, If there are any Take one step at a time, Always adjusting, shifting, and changing. This year, on my fortieth birthday, I feel young but less erratic, I am an old soul with a nuanced perspective. Matched with experience and wisdom, I am still lively with zeal and passion. Four decades is a magical age, Prophet Mohammed received wisdom, Abraham Lincoln discovered Zen, Henry Ford hit a home run, I feel I have just begun. I consider the last four decades, As my strong foundation, There’s much done, And much more, my heart yearns. I am a work in progress, I lean, unlearn, and relearn, It’s a continuous process, I am a sinner that won’t give up My only job is to keep trying, With every breath, I continue the journey ahead, For life is a work in progress.
