WHERE DO WE BELONG?
From our creative partner in Gurugram, Haryana just outside of Delhi in India
Many people out there, Are not even aware, Where do they belong? It’s like they have lost the chasm. If I can dance a crazy dance, I belong If I am not judged, but loved, I belong If I can lower my guard, I belong If I can share my unfiltered thoughts, I belong If I am understood, I belong If I feel safe and calm, I belong. Belongingness isn’t a utopian dream, It is a feasible realm. We do not need many people or places, Even one can be sufficient, To make us feel, we belong. To a poet, Poetry club is where they may feel belonged, To a reader, Library is as good a place as home, To an astronaut, Outer space is the home they always longed To a child, mother is where the belongingness might end. It’s different for different people, But this we must know, We all belong somewhere Maybe a person or place Person here can even be Our own self or thee Place can be anywhere Land, sky or the sea. Else we are the pendulum Hanging in time and space. Dangling here and there, At our whims and fancy.

This week in my workplace we are celebrating Community Health and Wellbeing Week. A large part of that celebration is focused on social prescribing (https://www.allianceon.org/Social-Prescribing-Conference) and belonging is EXACTLY what social prescribing is all about. My key takeaway from this beautiful piece is that belonging may look different for different people....but we all need to belong. Love it!
Belonging taps into such a deep and primal need, and you did such a great job exploring it, I found it very moving. For a few moments, I was taken back in time 30+ years to a conversation I had with someone very special, a unique and eccentric dreamer, about belonging and home.
