None of us lusts after the naked truth
Feeling that we would be judged in its sightÂ
Instead, we’re content to slink away in the dark
We prefer to be safe than burned by the light
Us humans we couch our lives in small lies
They’re like a shield against the power of truth
They are a form of mental protectionÂ
Keeping us safe from the truth’s mental abuse
In these lies we traipse through our world
Content that no one knows who we areÂ
Our lies in reality are the only constantÂ
They are the Band-Aids we put over our scars
Look at the person you love the mostÂ
Can you truly say you know all about them?
Whether they’re your child, lover or friend
They hide the truths we will condemn
We learn to do this, early on in our youthÂ
First quite by accident then it becomes habitÂ
Now we all have an aversion to truthÂ
This is the reality for every person on our planetÂ
Some use their religion as a cross they must bearÂ
They say they recognize lies as a sin
The problem can be solved with a prayerÂ
Another lie, another straw mannequinÂ
Thus is our world and always so shall it beÂ
There are no buts, no if, ands, or whysÂ
It is the thing that defines us as humanÂ
We prefer to be safe in our lies.Â
