I Learned
From our creative partner in Gurugram, Haryana just outside of Delhi in India
This poem is taken from Dr. Shruti Shankar Gaur’s book Four Decades, The Prose of My Life and is printed with permission. This insightful poem #18 from Section 2, Inner Chaos is a call for us all to look at life through the lens of what we learn.
I learned, After seeing both Sides of the coin, That To take charge, To take action Responsibility of our own being Is always better than Being and ostrich, Head down in the sand, Praying with folded hands, For the situation to calm down. I learned, After procrastinating in a row, Magic doesn’t happen, Magic is created, With sweat & brow, With fire & prow. I learned, After days of lull and dismay, Happiness is a state of mind, To remain happy, I don’t need anything or anybody. I learned, After crucifying myself to become perfect, There’s no such thing as perfection, Thus, love the authentic self, With all sincerity. I learned, Through the many challenges and struggles, That the four decades of my life offered, Thus, these lessons are hard-earned. I learned, From whatever life threw at me, Picked my lessons, Found the next open door or window, Thus, continuing my wanders, Enjoying life & its many wonders.
