Today let’s celebrate bad decisions
Sometimes they yield positive results
Of course, they often may need some revision
But hey, that’s what it means to adult
Because bad decisions at the first glance
May be put down by family and friends
They believe a bad decision means no chance
To ever come out on top in the end
But in many of my own bad decisions
I found little reason for regret
For through error or divine omission
My alleged liability became and asset
Sure, sometimes bad decisions can burn
Ending in trouble that could be prevented
What’s important are the lessons you learn
It’s not what’s expected but what was intended
So technically there are no bad decisions
Understanding this will free you from stress
Then and only under these conditions
Can we live a life filled with joy and success!
(Bio: Brian Sankarsingh is a Trinidadian-born Canadian immigrant who describes himself as an accidental poet, with a passion for advocacy and a penchant for prose)
Maybe we need to distinguish between “bad decisions” and “really bad decisions”!
I like coming back and rereading this poem. The way it puts a positive spin on things, it makes me laugh. And given that the bad decisions can’t be undone, sometimes laughter really is the best medicine.
