A New Paradigm
Read Brian Sankarsingh's latest poem about...something or the other
It took me three days to write this poem; but it took my brain almost three months. It had been festering and decomposing in different areas of my mind for some time as I ignored it and silently wished it away. But it persisted…and here we are.
For thus have we come to this place This area beyond the pits Above us we see empty space Below the deep abyss Attended by regret and apathy Sucking on the corporate teat Witnessing democracy’s apogee Dreams of Equity Incomplete The end of times The worst of times Oh, how sublime Oh, how divine Between fire and burning stone No place for respite Freedom expires with a groan In the shadow of the despot Money makes the world go ‘round Tis the accepted story arc Standing upon new holy ground Owned by oligarchs The end of times The worst of times Oh, what a time To be alive Belief in god and his grandeur In his holy grace But no care for widows or the poor For the migrant - no safe place No destitute, fallen or broken Could now approach Liberty’s arms The people have now spoken Thus, saith their psalms The end of times The worst of times Death is the fine For crossing the line The “Most High” supports hegemony From him their blessing flow He granted them ascendancy For all the world to know Belief in man and woman This “truth” they will uphold This is not about being human It is a system of control The end of times The worst of times Stand in line Or be maligned There shall be no abortions Surely this is grossly evil The poor should try abstention As they did in times medieval Is this what they call fascism This decadence and decay Or is it authoritarianism Democracy whittled away The end of times The worst of times Oh, how sublime How divine At the trough they all feed Assets illicitly purloined Luxuriate in ravenous greed And buy meme crypto coins Forget symbols of the past Forget the slave and chains We are the true iconoclasts Here to make you great again The end of times The worst of times Now realigned A new paradigm
